Frequently Asked Questions

Do you work alone?

Yes. Classic Woodworking is intentionally a one-man operation. Rod completes all work himself, ensuring consistency, precision, and personal accountability throughout each project.

Do you use subcontractors?

No. There are no subcontractors involved. Every aspect of the work is executed directly by Rod.

What types of projects are the best fit?

Classic Woodworking takes on a range of residential and light commercial projects, from focused finish carpentry to larger renovations when the scope, timeline, and fit are right. Work often includes interior trim and millwork, custom cabinetry and built-ins, staircases, decking, repairs, and finish upgrades. Rod reviews each inquiry personally and selects projects thoughtfully, with a clear plan, clean execution, and a high standard for the final result.

What does your schedule look like, and how should we think about timeline?

Rod’s primary working time is on weekends, with additional availability on weekday mornings. He is also a hands-on grandfather and caregiver, and that role comes first. The upside for clients is consistency: you work directly with Rod, the schedule is communicated clearly up front, and the project moves forward in a steady, dependable rhythm. If your timeline is time-sensitive, include that in your note. Rod will tell you quickly and candidly whether it is a fit.

Where do you work?

Primarily throughout Chicago’s North Shore, including Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, and nearby communities.

Are you insured?

Yes. Classic Woodworking LLC is fully insured.

How far in advance should I reach out?

Availability is limited by design. Timelines vary by season and project type, so early outreach is recommended.

Do you work in occupied homes?

Yes. Many projects take place in lived-in homes. Care is taken to maintain a clean, orderly work environment and clear communication throughout the process.

Do you provide estimates?

Yes. After an initial conversation and site visit, Rod provides clear, straightforward estimates aligned with the defined scope of work.
